Here we go!

This is less than a third of the Elders and Sisters in the Mission Training Center. There are 2,000 young missionaries here - all the time and they stay from 2 weeks to 6 or 8 weeks - depending if they're learning a language or not. They all come to all the firesides, devotionals and programs. They are in classes from early in the morning until dinner time. With one day off a week and then regular church meetings on Sunday. The senior missionaries (us) get the very front rows and have padded chairs. There are 50 couples here right now. So we're talking a whole bunch of people. All wearing dresses (girls) and suits and ties (men). This was a program Saturday night to celebrate the 4th of July. So they didn't have to wear jackets. And everyone was standing up to cheer about something, so I got to take a picture - otherwise we aren't supposed to take pictures. I wanted to give you an idea of the magnitude of this place.

Our wonderful District. We have friends for life - especially with the Garners. Since this picture comes before the one where I identified everybody, I'll do it again. Left to right:
Elder and Sister Garner serving in Equador (he went there as a young missionary), Elder and Sister Heller from Midland, Texas (they know Bush) will be serving in Washington, D. C. South Mission; Us - to the London Temple Mission; Elder and Sister Pickett from Rigby, Idaho (small world) are going to her home country and city in Argentina (he served there as a young missionary). These people and all the other senior missionaries are the Lord's choice people. How great they all are and how close we became in the first week of our training.

There are about 50 couple missionaries and we split into districts with this many Elders and Sisters in each group. It was purely by accident that we had Elder Bob and Sister Manuca Pickett from Rigby, Idaho in our group - they are going to Argentina. The missionaries sitting are Elder and Sister Heller from Midland, Texas going to serve in Washington, D.C. then next to the Picketts are Sister Karen and Elder Ken Garner from Western Washington State going to Equador.

Our instructor (the young kid) is Brother Sillitoe. He was just wonderful. We also had Brother Kyme and Brother Pine. We practiced our missionary lessons on each other and volunteers from Provo. They would be in rooms and we would go in as if it was their home and give a message. Scared me to death. We did this the second day in the MTC.

Bill is pointing to the United Kingdom - which is where we're heading in one week.
